Hi, I’m Shayla Wittenberg, MS, PC-A, and I’m the founder of Thrive Through Play Therapy. I’m deeply passionate about nurturing children’s emotional and social growth through developmentally appropriate, play-based support.
My journey into child advocacy began with mentoring in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and serving as a Young Life leader for middle schoolers—experiences that showed me the powerful impact of safe, consistent relationships. That foundation grew during my time as a behavioral specialist at a local middle school, where I had the privilege of supporting children through a variety of emotional and behavioral challenges.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministries from Moody Bible Institute and went on to receive my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. During graduate school, I focused on Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), a research-supported approach that respects play as a child’s natural way of expressing themselves and working through difficulties. I completed my clinical training at Treehouse Therapies, where I gained specialized experience supporting neurodiverse children and their families.
I’m currently practicing as an Associate Professional Counselor under the supervision of a licensed clinician. My approach is grounded in creating safe, supportive environments where children feel seen, heard, and empowered. I believe that when kids are given the time, space, and trust to be themselves, they can build confidence, self-regulation, and a deeper understanding of their world—growth that lasts far beyond the playroom.
Outside of my work, I love spending time outdoors with my husband and our three dogs, and I’m most at peace when I’m surrounded by my family, friends, and the beauty of nature.
